Soma Usage

This drug is a muscle relaxant. It is indicated for the relief of aches and stiffness caused by muscle strains, sprains and spasms.

How to Take Soma

Soma is an oral medication, and the customary adult dose is a single 350mg pill per day. Take Soma at bedtime with a meal or a glass of milk to help prevent nausea.

In Case of a Missed Dose

If you miss your dose and remember it within an hour or two of when it is due, take it as directed. If several hours or more have passed, skip the dose and continue with your normal routine. Never double up on dosing.

Potential Side Effects

Vetrigo, insomnia, problems walking, depression, syncope, headaches, insomnia, tremors, dizziness and agitation have all been reported with Soma use. In addition, Soma has been known to trigger allergic or idiosyncratic drug reactions in a small percentage of patients. These reactions typically occur in patients with no previous exposure to the drug, most often within the time period of the first four doses. These can include itching, skin eruptions or rashes, erythema multiforme, increased eosinophil counts and a fixed drug eruption that cross reacts to meprobamate. Rarely, patients experience severe reactions including dizziness, pain in the eyes, low blood pressure, asthma attacks, weakness, fever, angioedema and anaphylactic-like reactions.

Drug Warnings and Contraindications

Soma is not for patients younger than 12. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, as these may necessitate dose adjustments or additional monitoring. If you have acute intermittent porphyria, you should not take Soma. Since the effect of Soma on an unborn baby is unknown, make sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Also inform your doctor if you are nursing, before taking the drug.

Recommended Storage

Store in a tight container at controlled room temperature.

In Case of Overdose

Immediately secure emergency medical attention. Overdose of Soma can cause hypotension, lowered respiratory rate and unconsciousness. Some common symptoms of overdose include fainting, confusion and weakness.
